Depression

When everything feels heavy. When school, friends, and everything else feels like too much and you just feel down. Depression in teens is real, common, and it gets better with help.

What it can feel like

Feeling low or irritable most days, losing interest in friends or things you loved, sleeping all the time or not at all, falling grades, or feeling like nothing matters. It can feel like everyone else has it figured out but you.

Why it happens

Big brain and body changes, school pressure, social media comparison, friendship and family stress, and figuring out who you are all pile up. Depression is not attention-seeking or a phase you should just snap out of.

What can help

Telling one trusted adult — a parent, school counselor, coach, or teacher — is a huge first step. School counselors can connect you to support confidentially. You can also text a crisis line any time. You deserve help, and asking for it is brave.
